free mystery bulbs

Thanks to Mary Sue for offering this grab-bag. Don't ignore it! When I
moved 9 years ago, I sifted out all the bulbs that had seeded or
otherwise moved into the plunge sand in my bulb frames, and just
broadcast them in my new rock garden and the bare section that became
the bulb lawn. I laid sod right over the latter area -- didn't even
bother to turn the bulbs right side up. Plenty of nice surprises
resulted, and nothing tried to take over.

This summer I lifted a lot of excess from the part of my bulb house that
is planted directly in a raised bed, and put a lot of miscellaneous
bulbs into a roadside strip. Many of these are themids (Brodiaea, etc.),
which will make a good succession with the daffodils now there.
