At the moment I am enjoying the fall flowering Oxalis, Nerines, Cyclamen, and Crocus. The first photo is of a Crocus from NARGS seed that was named Crocus fleischeri. That is a spring flowering Crocus so I don't think it is it. It looks a lot like Crocus niveus which is in flower at the moment. Can some of you who grow Crocus confirm this? I am also wondering what the current thinking is about Crocus atticus. In Ruksans' book on Crocus he includes a number of subspecies that don't seem to be accepted by Plants of the World Online: Crocus atticus ssp. atticus, Crocus atticus ssp. nivalis, Crocus atticus ssp. sublimis. Plants of the World Online accepts Crocus atticus, but only for Crocus sieberi subsp. atticus (Boiss. & Orph.) B.Mathew It lists Crocus sieberi subsp. nivalis (Bory & Chaub.) B.Mathew as a synonym of Crocus nivalis Bory & Chaub. and Crocus sieberi subsp. sublimis (Herb.) B.Mathew as a synonym of Crocus nivalis Bory & Chaub. If you look at various Crocus sources including the Alpine Garden Society and Wikipedia, they are mostly keeping Crocus sieberi with all the subspecies (ssp. atticus, ssp. nivalis, ssp. sublimis, ssp. sieberi). So flowering today is either Crocus atticus ssp. sublimis, Crocus sieberi ssp. sublimis, or Crocus nivalis (the second photo). Can anyone help me figure out how to explain this on the wiki? On another note, I'm attaching a photo I took today of a pollinator on a Nerine. Is there any plan for sharing short lived seed? If there isn't going to be a BX until next spring, the fall flowering Amaryllids that have recalcitrant seed won't last until then. Would it be possible for someone to volunteer to be a distributor for short lived seed? I'm not volunteering, but I have a number of Nerine species that are now in seed and I'd be willing to share it if we had someone who wanted to take this on.
