For some reason, back in the dim past Barnardia (Scilla) japonica began to circulate under the name Scilla numidica. There is a plant of the latter name, but I've been told that it is very rare and possibly not in cultivation. I think that unless a plant in cultivation has very firm provenance from North Africa (Numidia was in the Berber territory 'west and south of Carthage', according to OCD), it's actually B. japonica. This frequently cultivated species bears pink flowers in autumn and tolerates a wide range of garden conditions.
