Thanks for the comments, Mike. Concerning others' responses to this exchange, I missed the idea that somebody was suggesting we replace the listserv with Facebook. Sorry about that. I, personally, only suggest the group could be missing potential opportunities by ignoring Facebook. I would be interested to know how many actually use Facebook who also use this listserv. Facebook has its perks FOR THOSE WHO ACTIVELY USE FACEBOOK. No need to finagle people onto Facebook, but what about those who use it already? Remember dear Fadjar who passed away in February? He shared many images of his crosses there, and others shared their images with him? He gave advice, too. This was just personal Facebook accounts, but I would not have had that interaction to enjoy without Facebook. And, now his son is making a special effort to keep things going. Facebook presently has 2.7 BILLION subscribers. Anybody care to speculate how many are gardeners? Maybe some even grow flower bulbs? I have over 3,000 people who like my FOR PROFIT flower bulb page, and even though I don't have much to offer commercially. Almost none of them buy, but they are interested in the images I share. I've not put a lot of investment into garnering those subscribers, either. The PBS Facebook Page has over 2,000 followers, and what investment have you put into that following? Do those followers clearly understand they could support PBS with perks? Maybe they do. I'm just asking. Do they have the most convenient way possible to join if they use Facebook anyway? What if, while they are using Facebook, they could see group interactions show up on their feed, making it convenient for them to scan for interesting topics? What if they could, instead of having to read paragraphs to find there is an image link which then must be clicked, and for which there is no convenient way to provide comment, except to return to the listserv, find the message and reply, and make sure you hit the right reply button, just what if they could, immediately see it and comment right there? Point is that it doesn't really matter whether you, personally, want to use Facebook. It doesn't really matter that I like to use Facebook. Does PBS believe it has reached who it's going to reach and could Facebook be a missed opportunity to share the joy of flower bulbs? Obviously, it's okay if it doesn't suit the organization, but I hope it's not based solely on personal fears or disdain. I don't wish to discount these negatives. I only wish to express that not all people fear it or have disdain for it. 2.7 BILLION belong to it. -- Mr. Kelly M.
