Dave, I keep Gordon's seed until the following fall. For bulbs (and for fleshy Amaryllid seeds), I plant them up and grow them on the northern side of my house until May or June. My climate in Berkeley lets me extend spring if I pick the right spot. You want to give them a cool growing season for as a long as you can. In the past, some pots have stayed green until Fall and grown straight through the next winter. Others have grown from Feb to June/July and then gone dormant until Nov/Oct. ________________________________ From: pbs <pbs-bounces@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net> on behalf of David Sheehy <dbsheehy@gmail.com> Sent: Tuesday, November 26, 2019 6:36 PM To: pbs@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net <pbs@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net> Subject: [pbs] South African Bulb Order I just made my first order from Gordon Summerfield and received an email that the ship date would be mid-January which means that I'm likely to receive that shipment in February sometime. That's awfully late for South African bulbs and seeds (i.e. Moraea, Ixia, Spiloxene) which wanted to be planted in the September-October timeframe here in California. So, for people who have previously ordered from Gordon (or another South African vendor) what did you do when you received your bulbs/seeds? Did you plant them right away even though it's going to be a short growing season or did you store them until your regular planting season in Sept-Oct? Thanks, Dave Sheehy _______________________________________________ pbs mailing list pbs@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net https://nam12.safelinks.protection.outlook.com//… _______________________________________________ pbs mailing list pbs@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net http://lists.pacificbulbsociety.net/cgi-bin/…
