Yes Jane, I lived on the East coast for a while and it was always cool to see the hole in the snow around the skunk cabbage. Thermogenesis goes back at least 250 million years as many cycads do it. I give tours at Lotusland which has a large collection of these plants (>1000) and periodically the garden is filled with an odd odor used to attract pollinators. Cycads evolved 60 million years before bees and wasps so beetles and thrips are thought to do the pollinations.
