Here in the north (above the 49th parallel) I often get very long, floppy greenery. I found that putting the plant under a grow bulb to increase the intensity of the "sunlight" gave me larger blooms, and less strappy greenery. Lying the resting bulb on its side produced bulblets for me, too. Both grew well, and one produced a small bloom 2 years later... year #3 for the baby.
