My first bioswale attempt included Carex obnupta and Petasites palmatum, both of which overwhelmed all other plants, Athyrium filix-femina, ditto. Another attempt included Camassia, which adored the winter wet, and sailed through the summer drought. I recommend that genus, which our native bumblebees love in flower. I’m also tempted by Veratrum californicum, but suspect it too will prove too vigorous for small species, though the pleated leaves are gorgeous when they first emerge. Congratulations to Jane on trying PCI, and getting them from Emma at Wild Ginger Farm. She’s growing some lovely hybrids. Kathleen
