Plurals: standard practice in scientific literature for pluralizing genus names is lower case, no italics. I learned this from Dr. Mark Porter, a taxonomist at Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden, some years ago. Both the lower case and no italics of "scillas" indicates that it is not a genus name. But Scilla should have been italicized-- problematic in this digest format. Editors get to deal with problems such as pluralizing amaryllis or hibiscus, both in use a-plenty in the vernacular and scientific.
