naming of plants

Thanks to Nathan Lange for his economic or psychological perspective on 
why people cling to superseded names. Probably the most egregious 
example of this tendency is the refusal of the United States to switch 
to the international ("metric") system of measurements. You would think 
inches and feet were in the US Constitution alongside the Second 
Amendment. The rest of the world has been dragged, though sometimes 
kicking and screaming, into agreement.
