Hi Bob, The roots will self-prune at the soil-screen junction. Once in a while a few roots will go through the screen but only when the bulb has pulled itself very deep into the pot. Once they go through the screen it's almost impossible to remove the roots. During repotting if there is a very precious amaryllid root that I'd like to keep, I'd cut out the piece of screen surrounding the roots. In a few years the roots will die and the screen will come loose. This rarely happens though.
