Bob and All, >>>>> I’ve never grown this. Bulb catalogs claim it’s hardy to USDA Zone 5 (-29C). Is this true? And, if so, why? Bob Nold Denver, Colorado I grow it and have for years, in three colors, pink, white, and blue. It has a faint oniony smell when handled and seems tough as nails, but I'm only zone 9, so what do I know? It has been in the rock garden for 2-3 years and is still there. It blooms for me in January through March, quite a long period for a bulb, but only in the cold greenhouse. In the ground it's much later and doesn't go as long. I love it because it's small, with large cheerful flowers, reliable and very early. I suppose it could be a weed in a few gardens, but it would certainly be a better weed than some muscaris. I think it's worth a try. Then you can tell the rest of us whether it survives!
