Dear Jim,

Tulipa pulchella, especially 'Little Beauty', Tulipa vvedenskyi is also
good, T. saxatilis. Latter is only slowly stoloniferous, after 2nd season.
T. clusiana is also very good.

They all thrive in alkaline clay, neglected, in full sun since 2006. But
slugs can eat the bulbs.
