I live in a neighborhood in Phoenix that has a lot of natural desert remaining. We have a problem with an imported pest moving into the area. It digs and burrows and wreaks havoc on the native vegetation, which is soon turned from verdant Lowland Sonoran Desert to sparse grassland. It doesn't even eat the native plants - like a cat with its live prey, it seems to do this for entertainment value only. The local agricultural extension officer says there's not much we can do about it and nature will have to take its course. Leo Martin Phoenix Arizona USA
