Dear Peter, I saw your PBS post saying you cultivate about 100 accessions of Tulip species. I am looking for seeds or bulbs of species that are adapted to climates similar to that of Roseville, California (USDA Zone 9a) (Sunset Zone 14). Most tulip species and commercial hybrids are short lived here. Our annual precipitation & temperature pattern is similar to Amman, Jordan, Gaziantep, Turkey, Aleppo, Syria, Mozul, Iraq, Khorramabad & Shiraz, Iran, and Dushanbe, Tajikistan, i.e., 3-4 months < 0.6cm ppt & avg. winter lows between -1 & 4 C. Some species I can get from catalogues are adapted to mild winter climates (T. bakeri, T. clusiana, T. saxatilis, T. sylvestris, and T. tarda), but other species that I think may do well here are not readily available. Would you know where I might acquire, or would you be willing to sell me, seeds or bulbs of any of the following species: T. agenesis (T. aegensis), T. aleppensis, T. cretica, T. goulimyi, T. lownei, T. oculis-solis, T. praecox, T. schrenkii, and T. systola (T. amplyophylla)? I appreciate your help. Best regards, Mark Mark Robertson 1973 Saint Anthony Ln.
