1. Moisture meter
I picked up a digital soil moisture meter the other day ($25 or so) and while it seems more sensitive than the mechanical one I used before, it still seems to have a hard time reading moisture levels in the well-drained mixes I am using for my CA natives. Does anyone have a recommendation of a favorite moisture meter!
2. Moisture levels for CA natives
Especially for California Fritillaria, but also for other genera, I am still learning what the Goldilocks ("just right") level of soil moisture is in different seasons. I gather this is a subject of some complexity and debate but can anyone recommend a resource that offers some precision (something beyond "moist but not too moist" etc.)
