"Dardanus" sure sounds like a cultivar name to me. Keep in mind that before L. H. Bailey coined the word & concept "cultivar", cultivated plants were usually referred to as "varieties". Moreover, Latinate cultivar names created before a cutoff date (in the 1950s if my fallible memory still functions) are valid, though they would not be valid if created today. -- Rodger Whitlock Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
