I've been enjoying this thread. I'm no more convinced now than when it started that there is an emerging consensus on this topic. In a related post I referred to the corm/tuber of Arum pictum. I've noticed that many aroid enthusiasts refer to the perennial stem (underground storage organ) of those plants as corms rather than tubers. The wikipedia entry for corm illustrates corm with one of the culinary aroids.
