At a book sale the other day I picked up a small but interesting book on baboons, Baboons, survivors of the African continent, by Louise Barrett. It contains this astonishing statement: “During a study of the chacma baboons of the Drakensberg Mountains in South Africa, primatologist Andrew Whitten once calculated that a group of five baboons had consumed more than 30,000 Morea (sic) flowers in the space of only two-and-a-half hours.” Wow!
