Once I was hiking along the Appalachian Trail in Pennsylvania, in May, I think, and when I came to a powerline cut that let in the sun, the whole area was thick with blooming mountain laurel, the state flower of PA. It was beautiful and fragrant in such profusion, and I, then, understood why someone had decided that it should be our state flower.
