What's the situation re cultivars of Crocus speciosus? If you prowl through reference sources, you'll find many names, but my experience with bought bulbs suggests that these cultivars have long since become confused, mixed, or contaminated by seedlings. I've had several and for the most part they were neither uniform in appearance or particularly distinct from other forms. Is any institution growing these under conditions that ensure accurate naming and no contamination? Does any PBS list subscriber grow any particularly distinct form of C. speciosus other than the white? -- Rodger Whitlock Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Maritime Zone 8, a cool Mediterranean climate on beautiful Vancouver Island
