Dear friends: Just a brief comment on two bulbs blooming for the last few days: IN: Scilla lingulata (is this still a 'Scilla') This looks like a miniature Hyacinth or a good S. biflora. And the tiny heads of rich blue flowers have a definite spicy scent. Is this hardy outdoors? I am afraid it would get totally lost outside. OUT: Saffron (c. sativus) We've had a half dozen hard freezes and this seems rather late to start. Most of the fall crocus are done. Still a treat to see them and hopefully just the start. Just have to get out there to harvest. Best Jim W. -- Dr. James W. Waddick 8871 NW Brostrom Rd. Kansas City Missouri 64152-2711 USA Ph. 816-746-1949 Zone 5 Record low -23F Summer 100F +
