Hi, Some time ago we discussed Doryanthes, a genus from Australia. Some pictures were added to the wiki of Doryanthes excelsa which has very large and tall flowers. At that time there was a question about whether or not this genus qualified as a geophyte. In the last few days on the AB Images list they have been talking about this plant. I thought some of the conversation was very interesting and got Jim Lykos' permission to add information from the discussion to our wiki page. Alberto Grossi has contributed some pictures of D. palmeri, another species, that he photographed growing in Italy. Jim says Doryanthes definitely has bulbous root growths. Those of you not on the AB Images list may want to read about this. http://pacificbulbsociety.org/pbswiki/index.php/… Mary Sue
