Gethyum atropurpureum

Dear all:

Is anyone out there growing Gethyum atropurpureum? It's a beautiful Allium
relative from Chile that has black flowers like stars. It's not in my books.
I can find little information about it on the web, and less that's
consistent.

Is Gethyum its best name? I notice that it has also been placed in
Solaria -- that is, Solaria R. A.
Philippi (1858). Philippi created Gethyum later, in 1873. Sigh.

Regardless of the name of the plant, what is its habitat?
When does it bloom? I've read "spring."
How does one grow it?
What is its conservation status? I've read "nationally threatened"

I'm interested in anything you can tell me, especially if you can point me
to good sources.

Paige
