when X is not x

On my computer if I enable the number lock key,
then hold down the ALT key while typing 0 2 1 5
on the number key pad the symbol × appears. This
even works in Arachnophilia, when I'm writing
one of my web site diary entries.
**And on my Mac OSX the × appears when I used opt-shift 'v'.
