Jane brings up a very good point about how long plants can stay frozen without damage. From my experiences in the Willamette Valley and now down in the Coquille Valley, I'd say if there's not a lot of temperature fluctuation, you'll have most survive. I've had cyclamen in pots and other bulbs stay frozen for a week or more. They did not receive direct sun and the temperatures were in the mid- to low 20s every night although daytime temps were in the high 30s to low 40s. I'm sure some genera or species won't be happy at all, but most have survived and done well. I've noticed that while the mother bulb doesn't survive, perhaps too much moisture combined with cold, often the very small daughter bulblets are fine. This have saved some uncommon bulbs of which I may only have one or two.
