Holy cow. You're saying the by-laws require that officers are elected by the members, and yet we have never held an election? What exactly HAVE we been doing? Just a wild thought here, but you have our addresses. You could mail out ballots, and those who don't care one way or the other just wouldn't need to bother mailing them back. Those who do care can mark their choices and mail them back, assuming any of the offices have more than one candidate running. Of course, this assumes that the insiders don't reject a candidate out of hand as they so publicly did last time around. Surely pointing out that we are not following our own by-laws doesn't make a member a "malcontent", does it?
