A couple of years ago I read that an Oregon State University research team, and members from other universities, tested a group of slug attractant ideas, and found that the top one was actively fermenting bread dough. It even beat beer as a slug attractant! It can be used several ways, as dough balls under a protective cover (to provide cool shade for slugs), or as a thin, bubbling liquid in a container buried to the rim in the ground. The benefit of the latter method is that slugs move into the liquid and drown.
Here’s a link to a research paper on the topic: https://ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/… <https://ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/…>
Homemade bread ferments are even cheaper than beer. : )
