Ipomoea quamoclit

One must be careful w/ this vine as it reseeds liberally, at least in Zone 8 and further south, and can be invasive in non-horticultural settings.  I planted it  along a fence 15 years ago and have never had to replant.  
A similar plant, Ipomoea coccinea, is also a South American invasive though not used as often in local gardens.  I find it growing in disturbed areas, blooming usually in late summer and autumn.  Ipomoea quamoclit, or "Cypress Vine", as it is know locally, begins bloom in mid-summer.  "Cardinal Creeper" is the local name for the hybrid of the two species.
The seeds are long-lived.  I have planted seeds 3-4 years old, with a very good germination rate.If you would like seeds of either species, please let me know.
