Jim Barton, one of our members with a particular fondness for calochortus, has pointed out that it’s too late to sow calochortus seed this year if you live in a hot area. The little seedlings don’t have time to develop a big enough bulb to take them through dormancy before the heat forces them dormant. A good plan would be to hold the seed until fall and then plant it then in time with Mother Nature.
