I received one as a test /promo when I was writing my blog from one of the manufactures. I thought it was silly, but free, so I went with it. I was pleasantly surprised that it worked so well. Honestly, most amaryllis are just disposable for me anyway, in Massachusetts. I wouldn’t buy one again for me though - just not my aesthetic, but I've bought them as Christmas gifts for people who I know are not plant people. It's a novelty, clearly, but they do work as a one-shot. Of course, cutting roots off of an amaryllis will affect future bloom anyway. The instructions say it does not need water. It is slowly putting up leaves. After it blooms, can I peel off the wax and put the bulb in a pot? Or is it meant as a throw-away?
