Hi there, A friend of mine gave me a Paramongaia weberbaueri bulb along with a few other things. Everything he sent me was summer-growing (Stenomesson miniatum, Clinanthus variegatus, Nerine laticoma, Nerine bowdenii). When I was reading about the Paramongaia, I saw that there’s a winter-growing version and a summer-growing version. When I asked him if he knew which it is, he said he didn’t know but doesn’t follow dormancy patterns anyway. I planted the Stenomesson, Clinanthus, and Paramongaia together in a pot indoors and the Nerines outdoors, and they all sprouted immediately (August). They’ve all been growing well and leafing out well. The Stenomesson and Clinanthus seem to be going dormant (in line with PBS cultivation info: October) but the Nerines outdoors and the Paramongaia indoors seem to be growing more rapidly. I’m assuming that the Nerines grow until it gets colder (unless they were mislabeled west cape species), but can anyone give me some insight into the Paramongaia and whether rapid growth in October is a sign that it’s more likely the winter-grower than the summer-grower? I’m assuming they all might be a bit confused but I really don’t want anything to rot. I’m thinking of removing the Paramongaia and planting it separately (I planted them together so they could bulk up for a month or two after I treated and quarantined them for as a red splotch precaution). I’m in the Northern Hemisphere in Portland, Oregon, USA and my winter dormant bulbs (both indoors and out) still have green on them. Temperatures are 72F/22C max and 41F/5C with patches of consistent rain. Thank you!!
