I just watched the link that Mary Sue sent out for Ken Blackfords talk to CalHort on SA Amaryllids. It’s really good my hats off to Ken for a great part 1 talk. From the information Ken shared watching the video, I’m sad I never had a chance to visit. Several of the photos are from the UC Irvine SA bulb garden Ken had in his talk to CalHort. This week between Ken’s talk and Michael Mace’s presentation, It occurred to me, why have we not set up our own zoom series of presentations from members…. Not sure anyone ever followed up on the paid model from Zoom? I did this evening We would likely use the Zoom Pro version which is 1 license and up to 100 users.( seats) 14.99 per month the limit of time per month is 30 hours and a meeting could be that long I guess? Due to Arnold’’s excellent financial stewardship if you read the bulb garden over the last several years we have $ 40,000 give or take consistently…so our fixed costs are stable…as a group and the $ 1000 I used as a cost is likely twice our real cost at end of year one. Seem’s an investment in ourselves which fosters the exchange of information, personal Connection and allows us to communicate with each other is a great way to spend less then $ 1000.00 on an annual basis. How will we get speakers ? ask them and they graciously say yes or no… We could have virtual tours of some of the members gardens? We could have an annual meeting which frankly we should be doing anyway We could have a new member class….. each month. We could play todays game sensation “!Name that Geophyte” live and truly see who is the PBS Geophyte identification champion 100 seat license is likely more then enough…for individual calls you can add a large group component for $ 20.00 each meeting which adds another 500 seats to a single event There is so little downside and tremendous upside… It really is time to invest in ourselves. If we get the Forum up and runnning we can archive the zoom meetings too.! Again I hope you all pop over to the CalHort Youtube Channel and watch Ken’s talk ftom this past week on South African Amaryllids…..I’ve taken the link from Mary Sue and posted below. Thank you Mary Sue for sharing in the first place.
