I have an Arum pictum purchased from Telos in 2005. Fall flowering of course. In 2018, for unknown reason(s) it not only flowered, it set seed. The seed stayed on, and on, and on. In May 2019 they loosened from the cob or stalk or whatever it is called. I think there was a discussion about it at the time, here at PBS. I sowed 40+ seeds in a plastic clam shell. Not all came up but a nice number did. Yesterday I noticed a little green shoot poking up so decided to re-pot them today. There were three very nice size tubers about the size of my thumb nail. They were potted individually. The shoot, BTW, appears to come from the side and near the bottom of the tuber. There were two more tubers the size of my pinky nail and one tiny one smaller than a pea. Those three were potted together in one pot. My assumption (and you know what is said about assuming things) is that since there was only the single A. pictum the other seeds were not as viable as I might wish. My original plant has never set seed again. I am hoping that when these young plants are large enough to flower there might be more success in that regards. Do arums prefer cross-pollination? Not that I really have room for half a dozen mature plants. Does anyone else grow A. pictum? If yes, I'd love to hear whatever you might have to say. Judy in New Jersey, where today I found a toad in the greenhouse in a small pot of fancy elephant ear. About the size of the palm of my hand. Scooped it up in my handsĀ - toad was sort of vibrating (if a cat I would have said silent purring) - and took it outside. It started croaking. And put it under a raised pallet with nice moist dirt in which to hunker down. -- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus/ _______________________________________________ pbs mailing list pbs@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net http://lists.pacificbulbsociety.net/cgi-bin/… Unsubscribe: <mailto:pbs-unsubscribe@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net>
