Dear PBS friends, Crinum japonicum ‘Han Ire’ is a rare variety of this species. It may be the only variety with white spotted foliage. It is a very attractive variety both in foliage and with white flowers. It is a medium size Crinum growing just over 2 ft for me. ( https://jlbg.org/content/gallery/…) In addition to the rare white spotted foliage it does not produce pups, but instead splits right down the middle of the meristem, multiplying by doubling once every year or two. It is very slow growing. Although seen on a few web sites devoted to rare plants and Crinum collectors it is rarely offered for sale. I recently decided to divide my plant after years and have a couple I’d like to get in the hands of Crinum fans.
