Rimmer's plant is a fluke (or a fluke event for that plant), like a Massonia with three leaves, the third innermost and smaller. Massonias do not offset in my experience. A 30 year old bulb of M. depressa split to make two shoots, but it is still one bulb at this point. To Mr. Preteroti's question, yes, massonias do have perennial roots but this does not mean they require watering during dormancy. Even in our hot summers they are OK dry or with only 1-2 light waterings in June-Sept.
