Some older floras give the dwarf form of Sisyrinchium californicum a var. or ssp. name, but new ones don't and I think the dwarf form is quite distinctive. Any chance of seed for the SX??? Hint, hint... I have Sisyrinchium idahoense macounii album from Kathy Allen in Central Point, Oregon. If I remember, this variety or subspecies is found in the Puget Sound area of Washington State and I love it. A dwarf plant with large good white flowers, it goes well in the rock garden or a trough. In addition to the two dwarf species mentioned above, another very good small one is Devon Sky and that one is a hybrid. There is also E. K. Balls which I'm trying for the first time. These little plants may sow around a bit (mostly S californicum but not the others), but are easy to remove, bloom for a long time and are so cheerful and accommodating.
