In Germany, which is part of I. pseudacorus' native range, it is a plant named as "besonders geschützt" (roughly: explicitly under protection) in the Bundesartenschutzverordnung (roughly: federal species protection regulation, which names individual species). Likely says more about the state of the water bodies in our densely populated center of Europe than about the species itself. I don't know if it is problematic somewhere in our area, but I live in a city known for its lack of open water. I wonder if its problematic in those dutch canals? So now we've come full circle concering the discussion about seed and bulb export regulations ... some species should have been left in their home range, and many were introduced deliberately with best intentions. I fully agree with Robin; it's crucial to gather information before planting (and listening to it ... remember I wrote it took me several years to get rid of Jerusalem artichoke some time ago? Add at least another year.).
