Jan is asking what soil mix I use for my cyps as hers is not doing well. I use Rexius container mix. They have two different bags, one aimed at retail customers and one at wholesale but it's the same mix. The wholesale bag says Filthy Rich on it in green and gold and is 2 cu. ft. The other is a 1.5 cu. ft. bag that's purple, I think. Both say patio container mix. You're more likely to find them in the northwest at BiMart and independent farm suppliers, but I know they're available in the Portland area. Then I tossed in bone meal. I'm assuming they like acid conditions and I think I've used a bit of rhododendron fertilizer with trace elements (Lily Miller). I was just weeding one of them yesterday and it's obvious it needs transplanting so that's next and now is the time to divide also while they are fully dormant. It will be my first time as I wanted them to settle down after being dug up a few years ago. From what previous emails have said - thank you all for such good information!! - they can be tough to grow. I think in Portland with its warm summers, a cool location would be very important.
