Yes, any number of possible disasters are out there and the only way to hedge against them is to live a good life in the here and now. None of us knows when our number will come up or how much company we'll have when it happens. Personally, I keep it in perspective by remembering that I'm a million times more likely to die every time I get on my Hog than I am from COVID, volcanoes, meteorites, or famine!
