Hi Vlad, " Does anyone from zone 7 or 8 grow Lycoris successfully in open ground? " Yes, I do. I garden in Niagara Ontario. Our winters are around -15 C most of the time but can get as low as -20 C for a short period of time. The area of the garden where tropical bulbs grow is facing south and it's on a slope. For winter protection I use "pillows" made up of construction grade plastic bags filled with styrofoam chips or "peanuts" (used for packaging) and sealed well with heavy duty duct tape. These are weighed down so they do not blow away. These last for several years and when removed in the spring, leave the area very clean. One potential problem that has to be taken in consideration are rodents that find such a cosy environment attractive. Use whatever method you find works for you. These are some of the tender bulbs I grow there: Laura Niagara on the Lake Canada On Wed, Sep 23, 2020 at 7:31 AM Vlad Volosciuc via pbs < pbs@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net> wrote: > Hello Jim, > I completely agree that most bulbs will do better in open ground.
