Pacific Coast thoughts

I agree with what Robin has said.  Yesterday was just errie.  The sky was so orange, then orange/gray latter in the day.  Very dark and strange.  Even with all of the blinds and drapes open in the house, we had to turn on lights in whatever room we were in, to see.  Everything outside covered in ash.  Today is somewhat better.  We have gone from temperatures over 100 degrees through Tuesday to temps in the 70's yesterday and today.  The smoke layer has risen making the air near the ground better but the smoke layer is blocking out the sun.  We haven't turned on the heat, but are dressing warmer.  We are still having to turn on lights inside to see.  We are safe and hopefully will stay that way.  So horrible for so many who have lost so much.  I feel guilty using any water knowing it is needed to fight the fires.  On the other hand, would like to wet my entire garden.  I'm just hand watering a few select plants.  There are other fires across the US and I feel for everyone in danger.  Definitely a time to be thankful for our safety and realize how fortunate we are.Carolyn

Dear PBS Friends, especially those on the West Coast,

Daily news and photos of  your unprecedented wild fires give me and all great concern about  members and their gardens. Some of you may have already been assaulted in some way by the fire, heat and danger. I wish you all well,: Keep safe,  Keep cool and be well.

You are already under the shadow of the rampant virus dangers and many of you cannot escape the record heat, but I hope you will avoid all these added dangers. Just so you know there are a lot of people thinking and sympathizing with your  daily upheavals and worries.

Good luck to all gardeners, families and loved ones.         BE SAFE and BE WELL.            Jim W.
