free mystery bulbs

For many years now I have been gathering excess unknown bulbs and
planting them in a large pot. Remembering reading the huge number of
different species of bulbs that existed in Nieuwoudtville if you dug up
(I can't remember how many meters) I purchased some very large deep
plastic pots and planted a lot of bulbs in them. This resulted in a long
season of flowering in those pots with new species in flower when others
were finished. I suppose some people might consider it a bit messy, but
I found I could focus on what was in flower at the moment and screen out
the rest. Bulbs multiply as we know and eventually I have to repot. I
now have a lot of these unnamed bulbs and feel I have enough community
pots. These are winter growers, most of them South African or California
natives, so probably not hardy in a lot of areas. Many I am sure are
flowering size and others could flower next year if not this year. Most
of them are probably easily obtained and  I won't be able to tell you
their original source. If you like surprises and trying to identify
unknown flowers that appear or are interested in starting a community
pot of your own, email me at mailto:msittner@mcn.org and I'll send you
some.
