Mike, I have enjoyed the photos on your blog every year. Many South African bulbs flower for just a few hours. A flower hunt can require several visits to the same area, once for morning flowers, again for afternoon ones and yet again in the evening. I don’t recall any gladiolus behaving like this, but some moraeas do. Have you made crosses between fugaceous moraeas that remain open for a short time and those that last longer? If so, how long did the hybrid flowers last?
