Hi Johannes, I more bell shaped and floppy it could be D. campanulata. I was also growing what I got as D. imperialis when in the South France. My plant was coming from a nursery in Saint-Ambroix (Gard). Now that you say I also would think that it was not that typical of D. imperialis. I suggest the following readings to identify your plant: Sørensen, P.D., 1969. Revision of the genus Dahlia (Compositae, Heliantheae-Coreopsidinae). Rhodora 71, 309-365, 367-416. (available from biodiversity heritage library online) Hansen, H.V., 2004. Simplified keys to four sections with 34 species in the genus Dahlia (Asteraceae-Coreopsideae). Nordic Journal of Botany 24, 549-553. doi: 10.1111/j.1756-1051.2004.tb01639.x (attached to this mail) Hansen, H.V. 2008. Native (wild) Dahlias - taxonomy, historical review, and the derivation of cultivars. Synopsis of Dr Hansen's talk. In: Trial of Dahlia 2008, Final Report. I thought it is D. Imperialis but now I have more and more doubts about its identity. Unfortunately I do not remember where I got it from, I used to grow several different acquisitions but most succumbed to rodents. I have seen Dahlia imperialis in a friend's garden, the flowers are more bell shaped and floppy. > Is anybody out there who can help? > > Thank you very much > > Uli > > -------------- next part -------------- > A non-text attachment was scrubbed... > Name: image0.jpeg > Type: image/jpeg > Size: 203507 bytes > Desc: not available > URL: <http://lists.pacificbulbsociety.net/pipermail/pbs/…> > -------------- next part -------------- > > -------------- next part -------------- > A non-text attachment was scrubbed... > Name: image1.jpeg > Type: image/jpeg > Size: 115068 bytes > Desc: not available > URL: <http://lists.pacificbulbsociety.net/pipermail/pbs/…> > -------------- next part -------------- > > _______________________________________________ > pbs mailing list > pbs@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net > http://lists.pacificbulbsociety.net/cgi-bin/… > Unsubscribe: <mailto:pbs-unsubscribe@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net> -- Dr. Luc G.
