Some happy news from my bulb pots today. My Tropaeolum azureum which I purchased from Telos as a tuber has emerged. I have the other species, T. hookerianum, from the same nursery way back, maybe 2009, which has not yet emerged. But this is my first year with T. azureum. When I was planting it I thought I was being super careful because it had a sprout. But as I was gently setting it deep into its pot, the sprout broke! Not one to give up easily, I planted the sprout and have been misting it with deionized water almost daily. Then, the same day that the tuber's sprout emerged, the rescued sprout sent out the starts of leaves. Yeah! Also a fun surprise today was my Gelasine coerulea that I got from Annie's last year has a bloom today. It bloomed in spring, which I expected. But I did not realize it would bloom in fall also. The plant has increased in size and seems happy in its 8" terracotta pot. I kept it watered all summer since the leaves were growing. Also for the first summer I tried keeping my Gelasine azurea growing all summer and it seems happy too. Blooming now: Moraea polystachya, Nerine bowdenii, and hope.
