Dear PBS,

I may have missed it, but I am surprised no one has mentioned the Pseudata Iris hybrids. These are mostly Japanese hybrids involving the Common Yellow Flag (I. pseudacorus and the Japanese iris (I. ensata). All of these hybrids cover a range of colors from yellow to orange, purple, white and most have beautifully marked falls. Their special value around ponds is that they are all sterile- no seedlings spread and fill the pond like both parents can in the right condition. These Pseudata hybrids have a range of heights, colors, patterns etc. and do well in shallow water to wet soil.
