HERBICIDES

Mike;
All in jest of course, but for clarification, I meant the hippeastrums appear resistant to the RoundUp I am using around them. I have never seen a hippeastrum turn yellow and suffer like the affected plants do. I spray around them, and try not to get it on them, but undoubtedly I do, and have done, and have never seen them suffer. I am using a concentration of RoundUp that is recommended for woody plants, so it's at the high end of the recommended concentrations. I have never actually used an 'annual weed concentration (lower)' and sprayed it over the hippeastrums and the weeds covering them all. Erick: are you saying that one can use the other herbicides that way over the Amaryllids?
Mike: I am in agreement about too much chemicals being used everywhere, and I do hand weed a lot, but pests like burmuda grass and nut sedge are some of the worst and I need to use something on them. It's my understanding that glyphosate is bound to soil particles when they meet, so tightly that plants are unable to absorb it by roots. This is why it is considered by some to be "ok" because whatever does not hit the green plant surfaces to be absorbed, and falls onto the soil, is not a hazard to the other plants. Other herbicdes can be absorbed by roots, and of course would not be suitable around desirable plants.
