What I've done with the Calochortus in the past is to sow the seeds in summer (as soon as they are ripe, basically) in both containers and in places where I want them to grow, but nothing has ever come up. I've tried covering the seed and sowing them on the surface. Nothing. Zip. They do not ever emerge. I've kept seed flats as long as three years and those seeds do not want to germinate. The seed flats stay outside for winter. Most of the native plants I have sown with them have germinated with no trouble. Shooting stars, penstemons, clematis, liatris, etc. have all appeared without issue. I am thinking about hiring a psychic or medium to ask these seeds what it is they want! (*Just kidding.) They also chose as a species to stay mostly in the southwestern corner of the Alberta; it's not like they flourished right across the whole province, which tells me they probably need something specific that they can't get just everywhere. Kind of thrilling to get a response from Robert Nold; I have both his penstemon book and colombine book and they are both much used references. -Lyndon _______________________________________________ pbs mailing list pbs@lists.pacificbulbsociety.net http://lists.pacificbulbsociety.net/cgi-bin/…
