Hello Lee, Your question why Pancratium maritimum does not thrive in pots is one I have been asking myself. There must be a factor that is not right for them in pots. Doesn’t this also apply to other difficult bulbs? If we knew the solution....... I would not compare Urginea and Pancratium. Urginea has a far wider ecological range. It can grow near the sea but is also found high in the mountains and seems to be indifferent to soil pH and soil quality. I have one flowering on top of my old drystone wall which amazes me every time I see it. That is a far more difficult place to grow in than a well watered and fertilized pot. It seems to be a far more adaptable plant than Pancratium.
